Modeling Nearby Low-Luminosity Active-Galactic-Nucleus Jet Images at All VLBI Scales

چکیده
Relativistic jets from nearby low-luminosity active-galactic-nuclei (LLAGN) were observed by Very-Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) across many orders of magnitude in space, milliparsec to sub-parsec scales, and the jet base vicinity black holes collimation acceleration regions. With improved resolution for VLBI observations, resolved morphologies provide valuable opportunities testing constraining hole physics. In this review, we summarize discuss current progress modeling LLAGN images horizon scales large including construction models assumed emission details. Radio Luminosity Function, Importance of Jet Power, and Radio Properties of Nearby Low-Luminosity Active Galactic Nuclei
We present the completed results of a high resolution radio imaging survey of all (∼200) low-luminosity active galactic nuclei (LLAGNs) in the Palomar Spectroscopic Sample of all (∼470) nearby bright northern galaxies. The high incidence of pc-scale radio nuclei, with implied brightness temperatures >∼ 107 K, and sub-parsec jets argue for accreting black holes in > ∼50% of all LLAGNs; there is ...
متن کاملAligning VLBI Images of Active Galactic Nuclei at Different Frequencies
Many important techniques for investigating the properties of extragalactic radio sources, such as spectral-index and rotation-measure mapping, involve the comparison of images at two or more frequencies. In the case of radio interferometric data, this can be done by comparing the CLEAN maps obtained at the different frequencies. However, intrinsic differences in images due to the frequency dep...
متن کاملLINERs AS LOW-LUMINOSITY ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI
Many nearby galaxies contain optical signatures of nuclear activity in the form of LINER nuclei. LINERs may be the weakest and most common manifestation of the quasar phenomenon. The physical origin of this class of objects, however, has been ambiguous. I draw upon a number of recent observations to argue that a significant fraction of LINERs are low-luminosity active galactic nuclei. AGN CENSU...
متن کاملLow Luminosity Radio Loud Active Galactic Nuclei
I review observational properties of low power radio loud AGN. High resolution VLBI observations allow the estimate of the jet velocity and orientation with respect to the line of sight and the determination of the Doppler factor. These data reveal rich structures, including two-sided jets and secondary components. New results on 1144+35, a giant radio source with superluminal motion are shown ...
متن کاملOrigin of radio emission from nearby low-luminosity active galactic nuclei
We use the observational data in radio, optical and X-ray wavebands, for a sample of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) with measured black hole masses, to explore the origin of radio emission from nearby low-luminosity active galactic nuclei (LLAGNs). The maximal luminosity of an advection dominated accretion flow (ADAF) can be calculated for a given black hole mass, as there is a critical accretio...
